211
ﺳَﻞْ ﺑَﻨِﻲْٓ ﺍِﺳْﺮَﺍۤﺀِﻳْﻞَ ﻛَﻢْ ﺍٰﺗَﻴْﻨٰﻬُﻢْ ﻣِّﻦْ ﺍٰﻳَﺔٍ ۢ
ﺑَﻴِّﻨَﺔٍ ۗ ﻭَﻣَﻦْ ﻳُّﺒَﺪِّﻝْ ﻧِﻌْﻤَﺔَ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ ﻣِﻦْۢ ﺑَﻌْﺪِ ﻣَﺎ
ﺟَﺎۤﺀَﺗْﻪُ ﻓَﺎِﻥَّ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪَ ﺷَﺪِﻳْﺪُ ﺍﻟْﻌِﻘَﺎﺏِ
sal banī isrā`īla kam ātaināhum min āyatim
bayyinah, wa may yubaddil ni'matallāhi mim
ba'di mā jā`at-hu fa innallāha syadīdul-'iqāb
Ask the Children of Israel how many proofs have
We given them. Whoever exchanges the favor of
Allah after it has come to him, then indeed, Allah is
severe in punishment.
212
ﺯُﻳِّﻦَ ﻟِﻠَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﻛَﻔَﺮُﻭﺍ ﺍﻟْﺤَﻴٰﻮﺓُ ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ
ﻭَﻳَﺴْﺨَﺮُﻭْﻥَ ﻣِﻦَ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍٰﻣَﻨُﻮْﺍ ۘ ﻭَﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍﺗَّﻘَﻮْﺍ
ﻓَﻮْﻗَﻬُﻢْ ﻳَﻮْﻡَ ﺍﻟْﻘِﻴٰﻤَﺔِ ۗ ﻭَﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻳَﺮْﺯُﻕُ ﻣَﻦْ ﻳَّﺸَﺎۤﺀُ
ﺑِﻐَﻴْﺮِ ﺣِﺴَﺎﺏٍ
zuyyina lillażīna kafarul-ḥayātud-dun-yā wa
yaskharụna minallażīna āmanụ,
wallażīnattaqau fauqahum yaumal-qiyāmah,
wallāhu yarzuqu may yasyā`u bigairi ḥisāb
The life of this world is made beautiful in the eyes
of those who disbelieve, and they despise those
who believe. And those who guard (against evil)
will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And
Allah provides for whom He wills without
reckoning.
213
ﻛَﺎﻥَ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺱُ ﺍُﻣَّﺔً ﻭَّﺍﺣِﺪَﺓً ۗ ﻓَﺒَﻌَﺚَ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺒِﻴّٖﻦَ
ﻣُﺒَﺸِّﺮِﻳْﻦَ ﻭَﻣُﻨْﺬِﺭِﻳْﻦَ ۖ ﻭَﺍَﻧْﺰَﻝَ ﻣَﻌَﻬُﻢُ ﺍﻟْﻜِﺘٰﺐَ
ﺑِﺎﻟْﺤَﻖِّ ﻟِﻴَﺤْﻜُﻢَ ﺑَﻴْﻦَ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺱِ ﻓِﻴْﻤَﺎ ﺍﺧْﺘَﻠَﻔُﻮْﺍ
ﻓِﻴْﻪِ ۗ ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺍﺧْﺘَﻠَﻒَ ﻓِﻴْﻪِ ﺍِﻟَّﺎ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍُﻭْﺗُﻮْﻩُ ﻣِﻦْۢ
ﺑَﻌْﺪِ ﻣَﺎ ﺟَﺎۤﺀَﺗْﻬُﻢُ ﺍﻟْﺒَﻴِّﻨٰﺖُ ﺑَﻐْﻴًﺎ ۢ ﺑَﻴْﻨَﻬُﻢْ ۚ ﻓَﻬَﺪَﻯ
ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍٰﻣَﻨُﻮْﺍ ﻟِﻤَﺎ ﺍﺧْﺘَﻠَﻔُﻮْﺍ ﻓِﻴْﻪِ ﻣِﻦَ
ﺍﻟْﺤَﻖِّ ﺑِﺎِﺫْﻧِﻪٖ ۗ ﻭَﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻳَﻬْﺪِﻱْ ﻣَﻦْ ﻳَّﺸَﺎۤﺀُ ﺍِﻟٰﻰ
ﺻِﺮَﺍﻁٍ ﻣُّﺴْﺘَﻘِﻴْﻢٍ
kānan-nāsu ummataw wāḥidah, fa
ba'aṡallāhun-nabiyyīna mubasysyirīna wa
munżirīna wa anzala ma'ahumul-kitāba bil-
ḥaqqi liyaḥkuma bainan-nāsi fīmakhtalafụ fīh,
wa makhtalafa fīhi illallażīna ụtụhu mim ba'di
mā jā`at-humul-bayyinātu bagyam bainahum,
fa hadallāhullażīna āmanụ limakhtalafụ fīhi
minal-ḥaqqi bi`iżnih, wallāhu yahdī may
yasyā`u ilā ṣirāṭim mustaqīm
Man was (formerly) a nation. Then God sent
prophets (to) deliver glad tidings and warnings.
And He sent down with them the Book containing
the truth, to judge between men concerning that in
which they differ. And they differ only those who
have been given (the Book), after clear proofs have
come to them, because of envy among
themselves. So by His will, Allah guides those who
believe about the truth in which they differ. God
guides whom He wills to the straight path.
214
ﺍَﻡْ ﺣَﺴِﺒْﺘُﻢْ ﺍَﻥْ ﺗَﺪْﺧُﻠُﻮﺍ ﺍﻟْﺠَﻨَّﺔَ ﻭَﻟَﻤَّﺎ ﻳَﺄْﺗِﻜُﻢْ
ﻣَّﺜَﻞُ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺧَﻠَﻮْﺍ ﻣِﻦْ ﻗَﺒْﻠِﻜُﻢْ ۗ ﻣَﺴَّﺘْﻬُﻢُ
ﺍﻟْﺒَﺄْﺳَﺎۤﺀُ ﻭَﺍﻟﻀَّﺮَّﺍۤﺀُ ﻭَﺯُﻟْﺰِﻟُﻮْﺍ ﺣَﺘّٰﻰ ﻳَﻘُﻮْﻝَ
ﺍﻟﺮَّﺳُﻮْﻝُ ﻭَﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍٰﻣَﻨُﻮْﺍ ﻣَﻌَﻪٗ ﻣَﺘٰﻰ ﻧَﺼْﺮُ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ ۗ
ﺍَﻟَﺎٓ ﺍِﻥَّ ﻧَﺼْﺮَ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ ﻗَﺮِﻳْﺐٌ
am ḥasibtum an tadkhulul-jannata wa lammā
ya`tikum maṡalullażīna khalau ming
qablikum, massat-humul-ba`sā`u waḍ-
ḍarrā`u wa zulzilụ ḥattā yaqụlar-rasụlu
wallażīna āmanụ ma'ahụ matā naṣrullāh, alā
inna naṣrallāhi qarīb
Or do you think that you will enter heaven, even
though there has not yet come to you (trials) like
(experienced) those before you. They were afflicted
with poverty, suffering and shaken (with various
trials), so that the Apostle and those who believed
with him said, "When will Allah's help come?"
Remember, Allah's help is near.
215
ﻳَﺴْـَٔﻠُﻮْﻧَﻚَ ﻣَﺎﺫَﺍ ﻳُﻨْﻔِﻘُﻮْﻥَ ۗ ﻗُﻞْ ﻣَﺎٓ ﺍَﻧْﻔَﻘْﺘُﻢْ ﻣِّﻦْ
ﺧَﻴْﺮٍ ﻓَﻠِﻠْﻮَﺍﻟِﺪَﻳْﻦِ ﻭَﺍﻟْﺎَﻗْﺮَﺑِﻴْﻦَ ﻭَﺍﻟْﻴَﺘٰﻤٰﻰ
ﻭَﺍﻟْﻤَﺴٰﻜِﻴْﻦِ ﻭَﺍﺑْﻦِ ﺍﻟﺴَّﺒِﻴْﻞِ ۗ ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺗَﻔْﻌَﻠُﻮْﺍ ﻣِﻦْ
ﺧَﻴْﺮٍ ﻓَﺎِﻥَّ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪَ ﺑِﻪٖ ﻋَﻠِﻴْﻢٌ
yas`alụnaka māżā yunfiqụn, qul mā anfaqtum
ming kairin fa lil-wālidaini wal-aqrabīna wal-
yatāmā wal-masākīni wabnis-sabīl, wa mā
taf'alụ min khairin fa innallāha bihī 'alīm
They ask you (Muhammad) about what they should
spend. Say, "Whatever wealth you inflict, should be
reserved for both parents, relatives, orphans, the
poor and people on the way." And whatever good
ye do, verily Allah is Aware.
216
ﻛُﺘِﺐَ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻜُﻢُ ﺍﻟْﻘِﺘَﺎﻝُ ﻭَﻫُﻮَ ﻛُﺮْﻩٌ ﻟَّﻜُﻢْ ۚ ﻭَﻋَﺴٰٓﻰ
ﺍَﻥْ ﺗَﻜْﺮَﻫُﻮْﺍ ﺷَﻴْـًٔﺎ ﻭَّﻫُﻮَ ﺧَﻴْﺮٌ ﻟَّﻜُﻢْ ۚ ﻭَﻋَﺴٰٓﻰ
ﺍَﻥْ ﺗُﺤِﺒُّﻮْﺍ ﺷَﻴْـًٔﺎ ﻭَّﻫُﻮَ ﺷَﺮٌّ ﻟَّﻜُﻢْ ۗ ﻭَﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻳَﻌْﻠَﻢُ
ﻭَﺍَﻧْﺘُﻢْ ﻟَﺎ ﺗَﻌْﻠَﻤُﻮْﻥَ
kutiba 'alaikumul-qitālu wa huwa kur-hul
lakum, wa 'asā an takrahụ syai`aw wa huwa
khairul lakum, wa 'asā an tuḥibbụ syai`aw wa
huwa syarrul lakum, wallāhu ya'lamu wa
antum lā ta'lamụn
It is obligatory for you to fight, even though it is not
pleasing to you. But it may be that you do not like
something, even though it is good for you, and it
may be that you like something, even though it is
not good for you. Allah knows, you don't know.
217
ﻳَﺴْـَٔﻠُﻮْﻧَﻚَ ﻋَﻦِ ﺍﻟﺸَّﻬْﺮِ ﺍﻟْﺤَﺮَﺍﻡِ ﻗِﺘَﺎﻝٍ ﻓِﻴْﻪِۗ ﻗُﻞْ
ﻗِﺘَﺎﻝٌ ﻓِﻴْﻪِ ﻛَﺒِﻴْﺮٌ ۗ ﻭَﺻَﺪٌّ ﻋَﻦْ ﺳَﺒِﻴْﻞِ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ
ﻭَﻛُﻔْﺮٌۢ ﺑِﻪٖ ﻭَﺍﻟْﻤَﺴْﺠِﺪِ ﺍﻟْﺤَﺮَﺍﻡِ ﻭَﺍِﺧْﺮَﺍﺝُ ﺍَﻫْﻠِﻪٖ
ﻣِﻨْﻪُ ﺍَﻛْﺒَﺮُ ﻋِﻨْﺪَ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ ۚ ﻭَﺍﻟْﻔِﺘْﻨَﺔُ ﺍَﻛْﺒَﺮُ ﻣِﻦَ ﺍﻟْﻘَﺘْﻞِ ۗ
ﻭَﻟَﺎ ﻳَﺰَﺍﻟُﻮْﻥَ ﻳُﻘَﺎﺗِﻠُﻮْﻧَﻜُﻢْ ﺣَﺘّٰﻰ ﻳَﺮُﺩُّﻭْﻛُﻢْ ﻋَﻦْ
ﺩِﻳْﻨِﻜُﻢْ ﺍِﻥِ ﺍﺳْﺘَﻄَﺎﻋُﻮْﺍ ۗ ﻭَﻣَﻦْ ﻳَّﺮْﺗَﺪِﺩْ ﻣِﻨْﻜُﻢْ
ﻋَﻦْ ﺩِﻳْﻨِﻪٖ ﻓَﻴَﻤُﺖْ ﻭَﻫُﻮَ ﻛَﺎﻓِﺮٌ ﻓَﺎُﻭﻟٰۤﻯِٕﻚَ
ﺣَﺒِﻄَﺖْ ﺍَﻋْﻤَﺎﻟُﻬُﻢْ ﻓِﻰ ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ ﻭَﺍﻟْﺎٰﺧِﺮَﺓِ ۚ
ﻭَﺍُﻭﻟٰۤﻯِٕﻚَ ﺍَﺻْﺤٰﺐُ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺭِۚ ﻫُﻢْ ﻓِﻴْﻬَﺎ ﺧٰﻠِﺪُﻭْﻥَ
yas`alụnaka 'anisy-syahril-ḥarāmi qitālin fīh,
qul qitālun fīhi kabīr, wa ṣaddun 'an sabīlillāhi
wa kufrum bihī wal-masjidil-ḥarāmi wa
ikhrāju ahlihī min-hu akbaru 'indallāh, wal-
fitnatu akbaru minal-qatl, wa lā yazālụna
yuqātilụnakum ḥattā yaruddụkum 'an dīnikum
inistaṭā'ụ, wa may yartadid mingkum 'an
dīnihī fa yamut wa huwa kāfirun fa ulā`ika
ḥabiṭat a'māluhum fid-dun-yā wal-ākhirah,
wa ulā`ika aṣ-ḥābun-nār, hum fīhā khālidụn
They ask you (Muhammad) about fighting in the
sacred month. Say, “Fighting in that month is a
great (sin). But barring (people) from the way of
Allah, disbelieving in Him, (barring people from
entering) the Sacred Mosque, and expelling the
people from around it, is greater (sin) in the sight
of Allah. While slander is more cruel than murder.
They will not stop fighting you until you apostatize
(out) from your religion, if they are able. Whoever
of you apostatizes from his religion, then he dies in
disbelief, then their deeds are in vain in this world
and in the hereafter, and they are the dwellers of
hell, they will abide therein. "
218
ﺍِﻥَّ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍٰﻣَﻨُﻮْﺍ ﻭَﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﻫَﺎﺟَﺮُﻭْﺍ ﻭَﺟَﺎﻫَﺪُﻭْﺍ
ﻓِﻲْ ﺳَﺒِﻴْﻞِ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ ۙ ﺍُﻭﻟٰۤﻯِٕﻚَ ﻳَﺮْﺟُﻮْﻥَ ﺭَﺣْﻤَﺖَ
ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪِ ۗﻭَﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻏَﻔُﻮْﺭٌ ﺭَّﺣِﻴْﻢٌ
innallażīna āmanụ wallażīna hājarụ wa
jāhadụ fī sabīlillāhi ulā`ika yarjụna
raḥmatallāh, wallāhu gafụrur raḥīm
Lo! Those who believed, and those who emigrated
and fought in the cause of Allah, these are they
who hope for the mercy of Allah. God is Forgiving,
Merciful.
219
۞ ﻳَﺴْـَٔﻠُﻮْﻧَﻚَ ﻋَﻦِ ﺍﻟْﺨَﻤْﺮِ ﻭَﺍﻟْﻤَﻴْﺴِﺮِۗ ﻗُﻞْ
ﻓِﻴْﻬِﻤَﺎٓ ﺍِﺛْﻢٌ ﻛَﺒِﻴْﺮٌ ﻭَّﻣَﻨَﺎﻓِﻊُ ﻟِﻠﻨَّﺎﺱِۖ ﻭَﺍِﺛْﻤُﻬُﻤَﺎٓ
ﺍَﻛْﺒَﺮُ ﻣِﻦْ ﻧَّﻔْﻌِﻬِﻤَﺎۗ ﻭَﻳَﺴْـَٔﻠُﻮْﻧَﻚَ ﻣَﺎﺫَﺍ ﻳُﻨْﻔِﻘُﻮْﻥَ ەۗ
ﻗُﻞِ ﺍﻟْﻌَﻔْﻮَۗ ﻛَﺬٰﻟِﻚَ ﻳُﺒَﻴِّﻦُ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻟَﻜُﻢُ ﺍﻟْﺎٰﻳٰﺖِ
ﻟَﻌَﻠَّﻜُﻢْ ﺗَﺘَﻔَﻜَّﺮُﻭْﻥَۙ
yas`alụnaka 'anil-khamri wal-maisir, qul
fīhimā iṡmung kabīruw wa manafi'u lin-nāsi
wa iṡmuhumā akbaru min-naf'ihimā, wa
yas`alụnaka māżā yunfiqụn, qulil-'afw,
każālika yubayyinullāhu lakumul-āyāti
la'allakum tatafakkarụn
They ask you (Muhammad) about intoxicants and
gambling. Say, “In both there is great sin and some
benefit for mankind. But the sin is greater than the
benefit. ” And they ask you (about) what they
spend. Say, "Advantage (of what is needed)." Thus
doth Allah make clear to you His communications
that ye may reflect.
220
ﻓِﻰ ﺍﻟﺪُّﻧْﻴَﺎ ﻭَﺍﻟْﺎٰﺧِﺮَﺓِ ۗ ﻭَﻳَﺴْـَٔﻠُﻮْﻧَﻚَ ﻋَﻦِ
ﺍﻟْﻴَﺘٰﻤٰﻰۗ ﻗُﻞْ ﺍِﺻْﻠَﺎﺡٌ ﻟَّﻬُﻢْ ﺧَﻴْﺮٌ ۗ ﻭَﺍِﻥْ
ﺗُﺨَﺎﻟِﻄُﻮْﻫُﻢْ ﻓَﺎِﺧْﻮَﺍﻧُﻜُﻢْ ۗ ﻭَﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻳَﻌْﻠَﻢُ ﺍﻟْﻤُﻔْﺴِﺪَ
ﻣِﻦَ ﺍﻟْﻤُﺼْﻠِﺢِ ۗ ﻭَﻟَﻮْ ﺷَﺎۤﺀَ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﻟَﺎَﻋْﻨَﺘَﻜُﻢْ ﺍِﻥَّ
ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪَ ﻋَﺰِﻳْﺰٌ ﺣَﻜِﻴْﻢٌ
fid-dun-yā wal-ākhirah, wa yas`alụnaka 'anil-
yatāmā, qul iṣlāḥul lahum khaīr, wa in
tukhāliṭụhum fa ikhwānukum, wallāhu
ya'lamul-mufsida minal-muṣliḥ, walau
syā`allāhu la`a'natakum, innallāha 'azīzun
ḥakīm
About the world and the hereafter. They ask you
(Muhammad) about orphans. Say, "Improving their
condition is good!" And if you associate with them,
then they are your brothers. God knows those who
do evil and those who do good. And if Allah willed,
He could have brought you hardship. Indeed, Allah
is Mighty, Wise.
